What We Do

Since 2005, Mersey Marauders FC have provided a friendly, inclusive space for LGBT+ people and allies to play football in the Liverpool City Region.

A place for everyone to play football

We run weekly training sessions for players of all abilities - everyone is welcome. Our players come from a wide range of backgrounds and experience of football - some have been playing most of their lives, but others come to Mersey Marauders having barely kicked a ball before. We cater for both these groups, and everyone in-between. You might see this as a starting point for getting involved in our competitive teams - or just fancy a kickabout once a week - either way, you’re welcome.

Competitive action against our LGBT+ counterparts and friends

We play in two regular 11-aside leagues, both focused on supporting LGBT+ people across the country to play football. The Gay Football Supporters Network (GFSN) league sees us take on sides from across the UK, playing home and away. Recent trips have included Brighton, London, Cardiff and Glasgow - all great spots for a game of football and a night on the town. We also play in a regional LGBT+ league (the Midlands Unity League) and numerous 5/7 a-side tournaments throughout the season.

We recognise that Sunday League football can be an intimidating, and in some cases homophobic/transphobic, environment - so we make sure that any fixtures we organise are with teams who share our values.

A social group for LGBT+ people & allies in Merseyside

Around the football club, a community of LGBT+ people and allies has grown over the years - and the club is both a great place to play football, and to make new friends. We hold frequent socials of all shapes and sizes - from after game drinks at The Lisbon bar, to mini golf, Eurovision parties, meals out and much more. Many of our players were new to the region when they joined, and have built social connections in the area and within the LGBT+ community through Mersey Marauders FC.
